Frequently asked questions
How long should I let the candle burn?
The first burn is the most important! When you light your candle for the first time, allow it to burn until the melted wax reaches the very edges of the vessel (usually about 2 to 3 hours). This creates a "memory ring" and prevents the candle from tunneling downward in the center. For all subsequent burns, we recommend a maximum of 3 to 4 hours at a time. This preserves the integrity of the natural oils and prevents the vessel from overheating.
How do I care for my wooden wick?
Wooden wicks require a tiny bit of maintenance to perform perfectly. Before every single relight, make sure to trim the wick to about 1/8 of an inch. You don't even need special tools, simply use your fingers or a tissue to gently snap off the loose, charred ash at the top of the wood. This ensures a clean, bright flame and prevents soot.
Why is my candle flame tunneling down the middle?
Tunneling happens when the candle is extinguished before the melt pool has reached the edges of the jar, especially during that crucial first burn. If your candle has started to tunnel, you can wrap a piece of aluminum foil around the top edge of the vessel (leaving a hole in the center for the flame) to safely trap the heat and melt the hard wax on the edges.
